NOTE: Even though this website is more geared towards men and skincare tips for men, these tips I will be sharing with you today are universal for both men and women and will help you and show you how to get rid of whiteheads on nose for good!
I would like to kick things off with a little story, this is a story about my 14/15-year-old self; even though things are a lot better now, it still hurts to talk about it…
Growing up, I was not the most outgoing kid in the world and, even though I had some friends I used to hang out with, I had a difficult time making new ones. This was mostly due to my lack of self-esteem. One of the main reasons for my low self-esteem was my face… I had acne and a lot of them!
My cheeks, nose and chin were full of whiteheads, while my forehead was mostly covered in blackheads… It was devastating and, even though my friends didn`t care about it much, I did! I always thought they didn`t say anything to my face because they were just trying to be nice, but when I was not around they made fun of me…
As the years went by I was becoming increasingly desperate in my attempts to get rid of these whiteheads. I remember one day when I was standing in front of the mirror looking at my face, seeing it covered in whiteheads… I grabbed my razor, pressed it against my skin and started scraping. Needless to say, this was a really bad idea, there was a lot of blood and swelling and I was lucky I didn`t end up with an infection.
I can`t blame myself for doing that though, I was just fed up, sick and tired of trying various creams and ointments and seeing it have little effect on my whiteheads. Around that time I was first introduced to the wonderful world of internet and I started researching. I wanted to know:
So, in the following paragraphs, I will do my best to cover these three topics and share with you some of the best tips I came across in my fight against whiteheads!
What Are Whiteheads?
Whiteheads are a type of acne which forms within the pores of your skin. When the skin pore closes, entrapping dead skin cells, oils and bacteria a whitehead is born. The difference between a whitehead and a blackhead is determined by the air, believe it or not.
In blackheads, the pore is not closed all the way, so the air reaches the material inside the pore and a chemical reaction occurs making it black. In whiteheads, the air can`t reach the material inside the pore and it remains white.
What Causes Them?
As I already mentioned, the main cause of acne is a clogged pore. Pores on our skin can clog for many different reasons:
- Increased oil production
- Hormonal disbalance
- Or poor personal hygiene
but it is usually a little bit of everything(especially in puberty when hormones are going wild, or in pregnancy or menopause).
How Can You Naturally Get Rid Of Whiteheads On Nose, Chin and Forehead?
I`m guessing this is the main reason you are here 🙂
In the following paragraphs I am going to o, fer you some tips and the most common natural, home remedies for treating whitehead and preventing them from coming back!
Facial steaming is not only great for whiteheads but for blackheads as well. Steam will open up your pores, unclog them and allow you to strip the dead skin cells and excess oils easily.
You can do a facial steaming treatment at your home, all you need is a pan, some water and a towel.
- Fill your pan with water and boil it
- When the water is boiling, take if off the stove
- Lean over the pot and cover your head with a towel
- Steam your face for up to 10 minutes
2. Masks and Facial Scrubs
Steaming should always be followed by a good scrub(face wash) since your pores are opened and you can unclog them easily. You can either buy a good scrub from you local store or make one yourself.
For a good home made facial scrub you will need powdered rice and curd.
- Add one teaspoon of powdered rice
- One tablespoon of curd and mix it well
- Apply on your face (and neck)
- Let it sit for around 10 minutes
- Start scrubbing using circular strokes (you should wet your fingers first)
Green Gram Flour Scrub
I have to be honest and say I didn`t really use this much but people say it is good for getting rid of whiteheads on nose. What you need to do is mix in one tablespoon of green gram flour and one tablespoon of jojoba oil and apply it all over your face. Same directions apply.
Milk and Honey Scrub
You can either use milk or yoghurt, they are both fine – milk will reduce outbreaks and yoghurt will provide moisture and nourish your skin. You will need to mix in one tablespoon of milk/yoghurt with one tablespoon of honey and apply it on your face.
It would be best to use a cotton pad to apply it, but you can use your fingers as well. Let it sit for around 10 minutes and scrub in circular motions.
Egg white scrub is one of my least favourite scrubs since it will make your skin so tight you will think it`s going to crack all over! But egg whites are packed full of proteins and vitamins so they are good for fighting both whiteheads and blackheads.
- Separate 2 egg whites and mix them good with a teaspoon of warm honey
- Apply on your face in 3,4 layers
- Let it sit for around 15 minutes and rinse it off
I first found out about clay from my roommate. I had never used it before but he said it was one of the best skincare products for face acne he ever used; naturally, I had to give it a go!
You can buy clay in your local store, just make sure you specify you are buying it for your face! Clay is excellent because it is rich in minerals; people have been using it for centuries to fight various skin problems and conditions, not just whitehead acne.
Use your fingers to apply it and let it sit until it dries out basically, I usually let it sit for around 20 minutes. Then I wet my face and start to scrub it gently using my fingers before I eventually wash it off completely.
For this scrub, you will need some garlic, lemon juice and orange peel.
- Take 2 cloves of garlic
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
- Some orange peel
- Blend it into a paste and apply on your face
- Let it sit for around 10 minutes and then rinse it off
I know that this peel might put you off simple because of the garlic, but it has some amazing anti-aging and antifungal properties, it will reduce inflammation and make your skin smoother. Before I actually apply this scrub, I take one clove and eat it, it offers so much health benefits, not even the smell can stop me 🙂
Soap and Salt
I actually don`t use this scrub even though I read it is good for whiteheads, but it seems a bit too harsh for me. Besides, you will need a good, natural soap, you shouldn`t use regular bar soap you use to wash your hands. It would be best if you could find an organic liquid soap (or make one yourself), and it just seems like too much work. But if you want you can give it a go and share your experience.
You will need one tablespoon of soap and one teaspoon of salt. Apply it directly to your whitehead (not all over your face), scrub in gentle, circular motions and rinse off with water.
Water and Baking Soda
This is actually one of the first “home recipes for getting rid of whiteheads” I event tried. People usually recommend using it for blackheads but I figured why not.
I should warn you that this is a fairly harsh facial scrub and you should only apply it directly on your acne, not all over your face.
- Get a glass of water and mix in one tablespoon of baking soda
- Get a cotton swab, dip it into this solution and apply in circular motions
- You can apply it a few times on a few different affected spots and rinse it off with water
Rosewater is a mixture of essential oils from rose petals and water. The reason I brought it up is because there are a lot of articles talking about its beneficial effect on acne, both whiteheads and blackheads; their main argument is that it will moisturize your skin and help unclog pores.
But this is not always the case. Scientists have studied the effects of rosewater over a number of years and they determined that rosewater may or may not help you 🙂
Let me elaborate on that a bit more – scientists discovered that rose oil will stimulate skin cells called keratinocytes. These keratinocytes can stimulate cell growths, fight infection and inflammation. But they can also attach healthy skin cells. So people using rose oil report different effects, some say their outbreak is significantly better, while others claim it caused redness and irritation.
So, when it comes to rosewater, all you can do is try it and see what happens.
When talking about facial skin care, we can`t forget about olive oil. It has so many different uses, I`ve seen people using it for anything from sunblock to rub on pain relief. But, today we are most interested in its exfoliating, acne-battling effect.
- Grab a bowl, or a glass and put to it one tablespoon of sugar
- Add a teaspoon of olive oil
- Mix it (not too much)
- Apply on your whitehead and scrub in gentle circular motions
Exfoliating and scrubbing your skin, though giving it a proper cleaning, will leave your skin dry, and dry skin can be susceptible to new breakouts. This is why you should always apply a proper moisturizer after you are done with scrubbing.
How to pick the best moisturizer for acne prone skin? Well, I can`t really give you a definitive answer to this one since we are all different. My moisturizer might not work for your skin. This is why I will leave this up to you – go ahead and experiment and when you find the one that works for you stick to it.
4. Natural, Herbal Remedies For Getting Rid Of Acne
We`ve covered a lot of ground today, but we ain`t stopping yet! Now I am going to tell you how to get rid of whiteheads nature style. Now, we are going to over some of the more common, “down to earth” herbal remedies I`ve used with different results.
Unfortunately, when I was a teen I didn`t really know you could use tomato to heal acne. I only recently found out you can just get a tomato, slice it in half and rub it on problematic areas of your skin!
Tomato is good for the skin health overall, but it will also help with whiteheads and acne scars. As I`ve said, I didn`t use it for acne but I can tell you I started to apply it on my scars (I used to pick my zits when I was a kid), and I noticed my scarring started to heel. The results are not too dramatic, of course, but I`m seeing some improvement so I give it a thumbs up!
Maybe you didn`t try this but I`m sure you at least heard of it. What you do is you take a used tea bag and apply it directly on the acne breakout.
Though this didn`t clear away my whiteheads, I noticed it helped me a “calm down” the breakout. I would apply it when I noticed my skin starting to get red (just before the zit would appear). So, I mostly used it for prevention rather than treatment.
Aloe Vera Leaves
My mum has always been a huge fan of flowers, so our house was always filled with all sorts of different types. And among all these flowers I remember finding a pot with aloe vera. Nobody had told me about its healing effects at that time but I decided to give it a go, there was nothing I could lose.
I later found out aloe vera was one of the oldest plants people used to treat acne. It actually contains various hormones which kill bacteria, stimulate cell growth and help with acne scars.
What you need to do is find fresh aloe vera, cut its leaves, squeeze the juice out of it and apply directly to the breakouts. You can repeat this procedure twice a day, but once is enough.
Keep in mind that battling whitehead breakouts is a sort of a constant struggle. Yes, getting rid of them is great but if you are not careful they can come back!
These are some of the common practices which will help you stay out of the harm`s way:
- Drink plenty of water to keep yourself well hydrated
- Keep your facial skin clean
- DO NOT pop your zits
- Keep your skin moisturized
